Bradford MDC has indicated that it is exploring offering financial support for organisations to help people through the support planning stage of their application for an Individual Budget.
The work we have done, in particular the Creative Support Planning workshops has made it clear that there is a need for a more creative, person-centred approach to support planning. We explored some ideas in the workshop, in particular the idea of involving more people in the development of a support plan and the brokerage of services to meet the outcomes identified in the support plan.
We believe that the ideal support planning process will involve a range of people – the person requiring support, their carers and wider circle of support, alongside social workers and other professionals. Through the Personalisation Made in Bradford Network we would like to explore how this could be done in Bradford. Ideas include
- Running a Creative Support Planning workshop with involvement from potential recipients of Individual Budgets, social workers, providers of services and other key stakeholders.
- Trialling a creative support planning approach with small groups of individuals who are interested in receiving Individual Budgets. This could link in well with exploring the pooling of Individual Budgets.
